“The Word Became Flesh” John 1:1-18

Christmas 2013(Mp3 file for download) In preparing for today’s service it came to my realization that I would only have about 10 minutes to preach. Let’s see how this goes. Open your Bibles and read with me the text John 1:1-18 Jesus meets you where you are It seems like more and more, we are made aware of people who will be l this Christmas in mourning. Christmas is a time to celebrate and rejoice, and have fun.  It is not meant to be a time of mourning. And yet, for so many in our world, the expectation of happiness … Continue reading “The Word Became Flesh” John 1:1-18

“What Are You Waiting For??” Advent Message

What are you waiting for? (MP3 for download) Break from Ephesians, and expositional style. Topical Sermon. Advent, waiting, expectation… -We Live in a culture of expectation: always looking for the next thing… -We are constantly experiencing unmet expectations… Matt Chandler says that “all frustration is a result of unmet expectations.” That has been true in my life… -Our expectations of a product, an experience, or a person are most often the result of a need in our heart, or a desire to fulfill a need in our hearts… often we expect things to deliver some promise that a thing could never … Continue reading “What Are You Waiting For??” Advent Message

Ephesians 4:1-7 “Walk”

Ephesians 4-1-7 (MP3 file for download) Open your Bibles please to Ephesians 4. We are going to be looking at verses 1-7 this morning. Today’s text is the beginning of the second half of this letter. What we have read so far has been primarily theological in nature, and we are moving now into practical instructions on how our theology is to make itself known in our lives as Christians. Let me begin by reminding us of this, your theology, or your beliefs about God will show up in your everyday life. At your core, the things that you believe about … Continue reading Ephesians 4:1-7 “Walk”

Ephesians 1:15-23 Paul’s Prayer, Continued.

Ephesians 1-14-23 (audio file for download) The last time we were together we looked at Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians. We looked at how his prayer was that they would grow not just in their knowledge of God, but in the spirit of wisdom and revelation. His heart for them was that the eyes of their hearts would be enlightened. He wanted them to not just know about God, but to truly know Him intimately. So what did He want them to see with the eyes of their hearts? We touched briefly on this last time, but we are going to … Continue reading Ephesians 1:15-23 Paul’s Prayer, Continued.

Ephesians 1:15-23 “Paul’s Prayer”

Ephesians 1-15-23 Pauls Prayer (audio file for download) So far in this letter we have seen two main elements, we have seen the introduction, and we have seen exaltation. In Paul’s introduction, he states who he is and who we are. In that section we looked at identity. Next he begins to exalt in God’s goodness, and lays out a very brief but packed statement glorifying God for who He is, while explaining to the Ephesians and to us what God has done for us. He now turns and shares what you might call his thesis statement. He lays out a … Continue reading Ephesians 1:15-23 “Paul’s Prayer”

Nehemiah 2:9-20 “Inspecting the Walls”

Nehemiah 2-9-20 (audio file for download) We are studying the book if Nehemiah. The first week we looked at some background of the book and how Nehemiah had a heart of compassion for the city of his ancestors, and his heritage. We saw his reaction to that compassion was a heart for prayer, and his prayer was rooted in the Word of God. Last week we looked at how Nehemiah waited, four months before bringing his concern to the king, he prayed and asked God for wisdom to speak to the king. He prayed alone, at set times, and he prayed … Continue reading Nehemiah 2:9-20 “Inspecting the Walls”

Matthew 28:16-20 “Make Disciples”

Matt 28 Go and Make Disciples (Audio File for download) Last week we looked at the resurrection of Jesus, and how he met with some of His disciples and reset their understanding yet again of the Christ… So, do you have a different understanding of the purpose of the Christ? Are you noticing in your own life areas where you are treating Jesus as something he is not? Well, I hope that all of us are seeing areas in our lives where Jesus is reseting our understanding of what Jesus is here to do. Now that we have spent some time … Continue reading Matthew 28:16-20 “Make Disciples”

James 2:14-26 “Faith and Works”

Fifth week of James. Last week we looked at how showing partiality to people based on their outward appearance is putting ourselves on the judgment seat, dishonoring to the people we look down on, and makes us liable for judgment. Most of all, the judgement of man is without mercy, however, the mercy of God triumphs over judgement.   This week we are looking at another difficult passage in James. Has anyone in here ever tried to buckle a kid into one of those new car seats? The ones with the two metal peices that are supposed to fit together … Continue reading James 2:14-26 “Faith and Works”
