Philippians 3:12-4:1

Philippians 3:12-4:1.   Hope we have learned a lot in this series. I’m not going to recap the whole series, but I do want to refresh last weeks message… Watch out for the dogs. The religious people, the ones who look to their own flesh for their right standing before God. They worship in their flesh, they glory in their flesh, put their confidence in their flesh. Citizens worship in the spirit, glory in Christ Jesus, and put all of their confidence in his finished work on their behalf. This morning Paul is going to flesh that out a little … Continue reading Philippians 3:12-4:1

Philippians 3:1-11

Philippians 3:1-11 (audio file) Philippians 3:1-11 We’ve been seeing through the first and second chapters of this book. Paul has been continuing to plea for the Philippians to live like citizens of the Gospel… Last week we saw Paul hold out for us 2 examples of people who have done just that and lived as citizens of the Gospel. We looked at how Tim and Epaphroditis served from the heart, laid it all on the line and did it for Christ and His glory. So that actually brings us to a place int the letter where Paul has finished that argument, … Continue reading Philippians 3:1-11

Philippians 2:19-30

We’ve been seeing through the first and second chapters of this book. Paul has been continuing to plea for the Philippians to live like citizens of the Gospel… He continues this plea as he holds out for us two examples of Christians who have lived out what it means to be a citizen of the gospel. They see the truth of what we have been seeing Paul lay out of us in that our unity in Christ is grounded in Christ’s work, and worked out through humility.   We need to understand from last week that our Faith must … Continue reading Philippians 2:19-30

Gospel 5- A Spiritual House

Gospel 5- A Spiritual House (audio file) Well, here we are. We’ve reached the final sunday in our series on the Gospel.  We have been learning what it is, and what it does.  We’ve done the flyover of redemptive history from Romans 1, where we saw that God made all things to point us to himself, we worshipped creation, rather than the creator. Then he gave the Law to diagnose our idolatry, and show us our sin, then he sent His Son Jesus to fulfill the law by living a sinless life, dying a sinners death, and raising from the dead, … Continue reading Gospel 5- A Spiritual House

Gospel 4- Justification b

Gospel 4-Justification B (audio file) Here we are in the fourth week of a series of messages on the Gospel.  We have been looking at scripture to understand what the gospel is, and what it does. The first week we looked at a broad view if what the Gospel is: that God created to point us to him, we responded by worshipping the creation, God gave us the law to reveal our sinfulness, and then he responded by fulfilling the law in Jesus.  We then looked at Ephesians 2 and saw how we are reborn when we are saved, that we … Continue reading Gospel 4- Justification b

Gospel 3- Justification a

Gospel 3- Justification A (audio file) Before we get started this morning, I just want to say a few words about the new position that I will be starting July 1.  First of all, I am incredibly humbled to have the opportunity to be your pastor. It is the next step in a journey that has been a long time in the making, for my family and for this church family. One thing that has stuck out to me is just how intricately it seems God has caused the turn of events that brought us together.  I thank the Lord for … Continue reading Gospel 3- Justification a

Gospel 2- Regeneration

Ephesians 2:1-10 (audio) Emmaus Christian Church  June 10, 2012 Ephesians 2:1-10 Last week we started a multi-week series on the good news about Jesus, The Gospel.  What it is, and what it does.  Last week we took a look at some major points in the story.  We stood back and looked at the beauty of the whole story through the lens of Romans 1. We saw that God created to world to point us to Himself, and how our response was to worship the creation rather than the creator. How God then responded by revealing His law, to show us our … Continue reading Gospel 2- Regeneration
