Gospel 5- A Spiritual House

Gospel 5- A Spiritual House (audio file) Well, here we are. We’ve reached the final sunday in our series on the Gospel.  We have been learning what it is, and what it does.  We’ve done the flyover of redemptive history from Romans 1, where we saw that God made all things to point us to himself, we worshipped creation, rather than the creator. Then he gave the Law to diagnose our idolatry, and show us our sin, then he sent His Son Jesus to fulfill the law by living a sinless life, dying a sinners death, and raising from the dead, … Continue reading Gospel 5- A Spiritual House

Gospel 4- Justification b

Gospel 4-Justification B (audio file) Here we are in the fourth week of a series of messages on the Gospel.  We have been looking at scripture to understand what the gospel is, and what it does. The first week we looked at a broad view if what the Gospel is: that God created to point us to him, we responded by worshipping the creation, God gave us the law to reveal our sinfulness, and then he responded by fulfilling the law in Jesus.  We then looked at Ephesians 2 and saw how we are reborn when we are saved, that we … Continue reading Gospel 4- Justification b

Gospel 3- Justification a

Gospel 3- Justification A (audio file) Before we get started this morning, I just want to say a few words about the new position that I will be starting July 1.  First of all, I am incredibly humbled to have the opportunity to be your pastor. One thing that has stuck out to me is just how intricately it seems God has caused the turn of events that brought us together.  I thank the Lord for … Continue reading Gospel 3- Justification a

Gospel 2- Regeneration

Ephesians 2:1-10 (audio) Emmaus Christian Church  June 10, 2012 Ephesians 2:1-10 Last week we started a multi-week series on the good news about Jesus, The Gospel.  What it is, and what it does.  Last week we took a look at some major points in the story.  We stood back and looked at the beauty of the whole story through the lens of Romans 1. We saw that God created to world to point us to Himself, and how our response was to worship the creation rather than the creator. How God then responded by revealing His law, to show us our … Continue reading Gospel 2- Regeneration

Speed Trap

We live in a behavioral modification society. We are all about avoiding the consequences of doing the “wrong” thing. Our lives are filled with consequences to be avoided, pitfalls to go around, down sides to not to be seen. The thought occurred to me this morning as I passed a state trooper sitting on the side of the road. We don’t speed because we don’t want to get a ticket, not because we are convinced it is in our best interests. We, at our core most often believe that it is in our best interest to get where ever we … Continue reading Speed Trap
